SeAMK's success as a university valued by students continues
Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences once again achieved excellent results in the nationwide graduand feedback questionnaire (AVOP) for the year 2023. The second-place ranking adds to an impressive streak over the past five years, during which SeAMK has secured three consecutive first-place positions and one third-place ranking.
The survey measures student satisfaction in various areas, including the education received and the working life skills it provides, support from the university, sense of community, internationalisation, and learning environments. Rankings for the universities of applied sciences are calculated based on the average scores from approximately one hundred survey questions, both for bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.
“Consistently ranking at the top nationally year after year shows that the long-term work for students and the quality of education has been impressive at SeAMK. Thanks to all the professionals who have worked for us over the years. Our students clearly enjoy themselves at SeAMK and feel well-prepared for their future careers,” says Jaakko Hallila, the President and CEO of SeAMK.
Centria University of Applied Sciences surpassed SeAMK in the overall point average, claiming the top spot. The longstanding collaboration between SeAMK and Centria continues to deepen, as evidenced by a strategic partnership agreement signed last week. Satakunta University of Applied Sciences is also involved as a third partner university in this agreement.
“Warm congratulations to Centria, where high-quality work has been consistently done for a long time. I believe that our collaboration will expand the intellectual capital of our universities and strengthen the competitiveness of our regions,” Hallila sends his regards to Central Ostrobothnia.
Numerous top rankings for SeAMK’s degree programmes – Sixth first place for SAMO
Also SeAMK’s degree programmes excelled in the nationwide comparison. Among the bachelor degree programmes, a total of nine programmes secured the top position, with three programmes coming in the second place. The first positions were achieved by the degree programmes in Applied Gerontology, Automation Engineering, Food Processing and Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Cultural Management, Hospitality Management, Social Services, and Business Administration (Library and Information Services).
In the national comparison, the second place was secured by the bachelor degree programmes in Business Administration (Business Management) and Natural Resources (Agriculture and Rural Enterprises).
Many of SeAMK’s master degree programmes also rose to the top ranks in the comparison. Four programmes achieved first place: Physiotherapy, Applied Gerontology, Food Processing and Biotechnology, and Cultural Management in their respective master degree programmes. Second places were attained by the master degree programmes in Automation Engineering and Technology Competence Management.
For many years now, the question related to the services and activities of the student union to support studies has been a cause for great joy at SeAMK. In this question, SeAMK’s student union SAMO now achieved its sixth consecutive top position.
Career Monitoring Survey confirms how the skills provided by education carry through the work-life
The results of the nationwide Career Monitoring Survey from the autumn of 2023 confirm that SeAMK graduates are very satisfied with their education and current careers even five years after graduation. In this survey, SeAMK ranked third among universities of applied sciences in measuring satisfaction with the completed degree.
The 2023 survey was answered by those who completed a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in 2018.
About the questionnaires
AVOP – Graduand feedback questionnaire of the universities of applied sciences asks graduating students to evaluate and provide feedback on their education. The findings are used locally by universities to improve their processes and practices as well as nationally in the guidance and funding of education. Almost all graduating degree students from the universities of applied sciences are filling out the questionnaire.
The questionnaire was developed in close cooperation with the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (ARENE), the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK), Foundation for Research on Studying and Education (OTUS) and the Ministry for Education and Culture. The responsibility for development and implementation of the questionnaire lies with Arene.
The Career Monitoring Survey of the universities of applied sciences is conducted for those who have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree five years earlier. The purpose of the survey is to find out the work careers of the graduates, the labour market situation and satisfaction with the completed degree. The survey was carried out now in 2023 for the sixth time, and it was answered by those who graduated in 2018.
The statistics of these questionnaires are freely available at the Vipunen statistics services of the educational administration.
