SeAMK received nearly 2500 applications in the Joint Application of spring 2025
The joint application of spring 2025 for higher education institutions ended on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. According to the Finnish National Agency for Education’s press release, approximately 32,400 applicants sought a place in higher education institutions in Finland in the joint application of spring, which is half the number of applicants for the same application in 2024.
In the recently concluded application, 2478 applicants applied for the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences’ English-language Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. The number of applicants in SeAMK decreased by 43 percent compared to the figures for 2024.
SeAMK offered five Bachelor’s degree programmes and two Master’s degree programmes in the joint application. The programmes were Bachelor of Business Administration, International Business, full-time studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Agri-food Engineering, full-time studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Automation Engineering, full-time studies, Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing, multimodal studies, new Bachelor of Hospitality Management, Master of Business Administration, International Business Management, and new Master of Social Services and/or Health Care, Development and Management.
There are 160 study places available in the joint application for foreign-language degree programmes. On average, there are 25 applicants per study place for Bachelor’s studies and 16 applicants per study place for Master’s studies for programmes starting in autumn 2025.
Both Finnish and international applicants were eligible to apply in the joint application. The highest number of applicants is for the Master of Business Administration, International Business Management programme (977 applicants) and the Bachelor of Business Administration, International Business programme (485 applicants).
Application fee for the first time
This year, a national application fee of 100 euros was introduced, which must be paid at the application stage. Applicants from outside the EU/EEA countries are required to pay the fee. There is a 7-day deadline for payment after submitting the application, after which the actual number of eligible applicants will be determined during the application processing phase for each higher education institution.
The aim of introducing the application fee has been to filter out low-quality applications and attract more committed applicants who have realistic prospects of succeeding in higher education studies in Finland.
— The reform serves the goals of higher education institutions if the decreased number of applicants indicates the commitment of applicants. When accepting a study place, the applicant must be prepared to come to Finland at the beginning of their studies. In addition to the skills required for higher education studies, the applicant must also be prepared for the financial requirements of the studies, says Hanna-Mari Rintala, Student Affairs Manager at SeAMK.
International degree students pay tuition fees. The tuition fee is 9,500 euros for a Bachelor’s degree and 11,500 euros for a Master’s degree.
SeAMK Direct Application available for international qualifications
In addition to the joint applications, SeAMK’s own Direct Application is open in spring 2025. The SeAMK Direct Application for English-language degree programmes is ongoing from January to March 2025. In this application, applications are processed, and study places are filled in the order of arrival.
In this application, one can apply with a qualification obtained outside Finland, which gives eligibility for higher education studies in the country where the qualification was obtained. The SeAMK Direct Application continues until March 30, 2025, unless the places are filled earlier.
The four Bachelor’s degree programmes available in the Direct Application are Bachelor of Business Administration, International Business, full-time studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Agri-food Engineering, full-time studies, Bachelor of Engineering, Automation Engineering, full-time studies, and Bachelor of Hospitality Management. So far, nearly 600 applications have been received. Applicants will start in the same groups as those selected from the joint application of spring 2025.
Student selections for the Joint Application will be published at the end of May
The final number of applicants for SeAMK’s English-language degree programmes will be determined after all the spring international application periods have ended.
The student selections for the joint application will be published to applicants at the latest by 28 May 2025 on Studyinfo.fi.
Accepted students must accept their study place and register as a student in the My Studyinfo service by 10 July 2025 at 15.00 Finnish time. Studies will begin in early September 2025.
