Dr Andreas Hövener is on a teaching visit from SeAMK's German partner university
Dr Andreas Hövener M.A., from SeAMK partner university Münster University of Applied Sciences, Germany, lectured on Intercultural Competence on Thursday, 30 January 2025. The lecture was aimed for SeAMK students who are going on exchange in a near future. One of the key themes was intercultural learning, which means for example an ability to interact with different cultures. It also involves understanding, respecting and adapting to cultural differences.
Students engaged in some practical exercises and learned why small talk is so important when creating new relationships. In addition, Dr Hövener recommended the students to follow up their learning with some additional material, such as the book ‘The Culture Map’ by Erin Meyer, among other titles.
Dr Hövener has visited SeAMK several times. The current teaching visit will take two weeks, including SeAMK International Days held on 11-12 February 2025, where he is hosting a session with the topic ‘Bridging Cultures and Mind’.
