Programme objectives and overview
Automation Engineering studies at SeAMK are designed to meet the future requirements of industrial operations. Alongside full skillset of traditional automation engineering capabilities, you will get strongly involved with computer science and programming. SeAMK is known for the research and development in the field of Industrial Internet and Digital Manufacturing, which also shows in our education.
Your studies include common studies for all SeAMK students regarding international working and communication skills, entrepreneurship, and research project skills. Common studies provide you with needed basic capabilities in language, mathematics and physics skills. Professional studies include a group of basic automation engineering and computer science courses, after which you can focus on various modules to deepen your knowledge. These modules vary between information technology, business studies, industrial internet and many more. Your degree is finalised with two practical trainings and of course a thesis work – all of which are typically carried out as real life assignments for local companies.
Structure of studies
During the first year your studies will cover predominantly the common studies focusing on building your abilities to study and work in an international and entrepreneurial environment, but we will mix in already some basic level professional studies to ensure you get the flavour of automation engineering as soon as possible!
Second year will mostly finalise your common studies, while adding more professional studies, including first professional modules. You will also start to work on your first project studies. Starting from second year you can also add some elective courses like production simulation or computer aided manufacturing.
Third year will deepen your professional studies to ensure you are ready for your first practical training happening at the end of third year. At this stage you are predominantly studying professional studies utilizing our great laboratories and doing assignments from local companies within the courses.
Fourth year finalises the remainder of your professional modules, lets you build your career opportunities in the second practical training and closing your studies with the thesis work. Quite often the practical training converts naturally into a thesis work place, ensuring you are researching modern day industrial challenges with full support from both the company and our university.
